So You Found A Roach

There aren’t many things worse than finding your very own roach infestation. German cockroaches in particular are hardy bugs, they are crazy hard to kill and seem to have the ability to take a hit and just keep coming back. Roaches are like people in some ways. They look for the good life: plenty of food, water, and a little shelter to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. As the days start to get hotter, roaches tend to find their ways indoors. They particularly love the dark, damp, crumb filled recesses of the space underneath your refrigerator. That being said, a great way to lower your risk of developing an infestation is to take away the things cockroaches love. Fix the leaky spaces under your sinks, seal up the cracks and crevices around your doors that roaches can sneak in through. Make sure food is put up and dishes are washed every evening before retiring. Keep the clutter to a minimum and you have gone a long way toward preventing cockroaches from moving in. Sometimes however, despite the best made plans, you find yourself with a tribe of these hardy bugs taking up residence in your home. Like some family members, once they move in they can be tricky to evict. So what’s your best move?

1) Check the advice listed above and minimize food, water, and shelter for the cockroaches. This is one of the most important steps for gaining back ground in your home. We can spray all the poison in the world and if the above resources are still available they will just keep coming back.

2) This is more of a what not to do than what to do, but, DO NOT fog, or bomb your home for bugs. Bug bombs are great if you have a problem with flying insects but will only make a cockroach problem worse in the long run and will send them deep into the crevices of your home making them harder to eradicate.

3) Give us a call. Our family has experience killing this bug for literally decades. We can help you through this process. A one time pesticide spray just won’t cut it with cockroaches for a couple different reasons. One is that cockroaches easily develop a resistance to pesticide products, so we alternate our chemicals between treatments to help with this problem. We also factor in the egg cycles of cockroaches when scheduling treatments to assure that once the bugs are gone you won’t be dealing with the same problem again in a few weeks. In all you can expect us to treat about three times for most infestations.
